Why do Maine students take the SAT in April?

The State of Maine pays for and administers the SAT to all high school juniors. This gives every Maine student one free chance to take the SAT - which is great news!

In Maine, school-wide performance at the high school level is measured using the results of this special SAT administration in April every year. This is part of the Maine Comprehensive Assessment System (MECAS) by the Maine Department of Education. The results from the 2019 administration of the April SAT in Maine can be found here.

Although some colleges do allow for test optional admissions, in many colleges and universities the SAT is still used as part of the application process and in the financial aid calculation. Bottom line: If you are a Maine high school junior, you and your classmates will all take the SAT in April. You might as well make the best of it and prepare for the exam!

Note: in 2020, the exam is on April 14th.

Casco Bay Achievement is offering three classes open to the public this year in the following locations: Portland, North Yarmouth and Scarborough. Classes start in early February and registration for each course is now open. We do also offer private tutoring - this option fills up fast!

The College Board administers the SAT throughout the year including March, May, June, August, October, November and December.
